I have been listening to Queen since the first day I knew 'We Are The Champions' and 'We Will Rock You'. One of the greatest rock band on earth and they had released uncounted of greatest album due to their popularity and good songs. Queen is a British rock band and they were so popular in the 1970's and 1980's, almost the same era with Beatles and Rolling Stone. They are well known for the sports anthems which is 'We Are The Champions' and you can hear it almost played in every stadium around the world. Intel to 'reveal wireless chip' - WiMAX

Intel is revealing the wide-range wireless technology on Monday. It is the new chips that will use Wimax technology. Wimax stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access and it is specialising in point-to-point broadband wireless access.

Scott Richardson, general manager of Intel's broadband wireless business, said Wimax equipment was probably still too expensive for wide adoption, but that Intel and networking equipment makers were working to push equipment costs below $200 (£110) from the $300 to $500 level.

"Most of the world does not have (broadband) infrastructure," said Mr Maloney.

"For most of the world this will be how they will get broadband," he said.

Most of the countries doesn't have braodband is either too poor or political unstable and how they can afford to have such technology if it is too expensive? Can Malaysia use this technology to reach more remoted area especially in Borneo?

KUALA LUMPUR (Dow Jones)--Telekom Malaysia Bhd. (4863.KU) will invest around MYR300 million for the initial launch of its high-speed third-generation, or 3G, phone service, called Celcom 3G, on May 17, the New Straits Times says.

The new service will be launched simultaneously in the Klang Valley, Penang, Johor Baru, Malacca and Kedah, the report quotes Telekom Malaysia Chief Executive Abdul Wahid Omar as saying.

Did you notice it is still Telekom Malaysia Bhd? Obviously the rebranding not reach them yet. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi has officiated the launch of TM Bhd on 15th April 2005.

Believe it or not. Edible User Interfaces (EUI) is an application that let you taste the food through your computer with some add on hardware.

The TasteScreen system consists of an LCD monitor with a USB on the top. The internal chamber of the USB device contains twenty small plastic flavor cartridges filled with various flavoring agents. The TasteScreen device can drip controlled quantities of flavoring into a deployment chamber, where they are mixed and dispensed. When dispensed, the flavoring chemicals drip down to coat the monitor with a thin liquid residue.

A user can sample the dispensed flavor by touching his tongue to the computer screen. Certain combinations of flavoring agents recreate a flavor appropriate to the user’s task.

For those who like music from movie and a little diverse, this is one of the great album. Artists from R.E.M to Radiohead and Paul McCartney are the few that everyone love their songs so much. If you watched this movie, you will noticed that some of the soundtracks are not featured in this album which I think make this soundtrack a little dissapointed. There are many more good tracks from the movie such as Joan Osborne, One of Us where Tom Cruise sang this track too. U2, Wild Honey also played in this movie and many other great songs. The whole movie is bout great music from the beginning till the end but I think it is the recording policy that don't want to fit everything in a single CD. Pretty sad.

Floating Logos Project

'Floating Logos' is a working title for this project. The images are inspired by signs perched high atop very tall poles in order for people to view them from a very long distance. The poles are digitally removed from the image in order to give the illusion that the signs are disconnected from the ground as they ominously float above us.

Media center concept is the next big thing for both Microsoft and Apple to meet the new lifestyle in the technology world. But this is still few years to go and currently they are still fighting for their own OS between Longhorn and Tiger.

Most people say that what is holding back the home theater PC from the mainstream is the ugliness, noise, and general unstable nature of PCs. If MS could find a manufacturer to sell Media Center PCs like this, I'm sure they'd have an easier time getting people to try them out.

Don't just use Google for news, information or your friends' blogs but search for more than you can think of.
1. Music
No music no life. Music is part of everyone life. I google unprotected directories that people usually leave it in the internet.
Google: -inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" mp3
Using this string we are using the "index of" and the inurl commands to attempt to isolate directories only. The mp3 tag on the end tells google to look for mp3s in these open directories. You can change this to wma or ogg if you wish.
Example,
Google: -inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" mp3 "beatallica"
This command will find open directories with mp3 files with Beatallica. Obviously you can change the band name or file type to better define your search.

2.Video
Again we can search hidden directories that full of video and Google Video Program is up now.
Google: -inurl:htm -inurl:html -inurl:asp intitle:"index of" +(wmv/mpg/avi)
Example,
Google: -inurl:htm -inurl:html -inurl:asp intitle:"index of" +(wmv/mpg/avi)+sincity
This will lead you to any video files that contain Sin City.

3.E-book
Looking for free e-books? This is the solution to google your favourite items.
Google: -inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" +("/ebooks"|"/book") +(chm|pdf|zip)
What does all of this mean? The -inurl htm and -inul html is attempting to get rid of regular webpages and show just index pages. Looking for index of in the title is doing the same. Using the pipe ( | ) tells google to look for something OR something else. Here were are telling google to look for book or ebook directories... and we have listed several common ebook formats (zip, pdf, chf).
Example,
Google: -inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" +("/ebooks"|"/book") +(chm|pdf|zip) +"o'reilly"
This uses the same idea but attempts to focus on directories that contain O'Reilly stuff. It's not perfect, but it's better than paying.

When I check the spreadfirefox.com, the downloads counter is at 45,865,565 and it is still counting. You can see the live counter running at www.infocraft.com with some explaination how the counter is counting. Mozilla originally known as Phoenix and briefly as Mozilla Firebird headed by Mitchell Baker. Recently Mitchell was selected as one of the TIME 'World's 100 Most Influential People". For me the most significant features which I like are the pop-up blocker, tabbed browsing and the live bookmarks which Internet Explorer is far more behind compare to the Firefox browser. Firefox is no longer an alternative to Internet Explorer but otherwise.

-Drunk salarymen vomiting everywhere, especially on the platforms while they are trying to catch the last trains -- I have seen more vomit on an average Friday night in Tokyo than I ever saw at Oktoberfest.

Nike has just released a report that documenting abuses at its factories around few countries in Asia and for the first time the giant company also revealing the location of all of their operating factories.

Between 25% and 50% of the factories in the region restrict access to toilets and drinking water during the workday.

The same percentage deny workers at least one day off in seven.

In more than half of Nike's factories, the report said, employees worked more than 60 hours a day. In up to 25%, workers refusing to do overtime were punished.

Wages were also below the legal minimum at up to 25% of factories.

When we look to the unborn child, the real issue is not when life begins but it is when love begins. Abortion=One Dead+One Wounded. The controversy between Pro-Choice and Pro-Life is never ending with both have their own reasonable reasons to argue about. I neither Pro-Choice nor Pro-Life but I do believe that the unborn child is human but sometime abortion is safer than childbirth. How about human cloning? Why the biotechnology wants to clone human embryos? And it is not only to harvest their stem cells but it is human embryos. This definately would lead to killing of the human embryos.

Surprisingly, a 66-year-old Romanian woman gave birth to a baby girl and named her Eliza Maria. I think nothing is impossible in this world huh? Normal woman will start to had their menopause or some might call it as "change of life" period from the age of around 50 years old.

Romanian doctors at the Giulesti Maternity Hospital in Bucharest said Adriana Iliescu, who was artificially inseminated, delivered a daughter by cesarean section early Sunday.

Iliescu's daughter â Eliza Maria â was born more than six weeks short of a full 40-week pregnancy term, said a hospital spokeswoman. She weighed just 3.19 pounds, less than half the weight of an average newborn, and was in the intensive care unit but breathing on her own, the spokeswoman said.

What to do during earthquake? After Malaysian experienced a bad experience during the last christmas, today I recieved this forwarded email from a friend. Kinda good info and check it out.

My name is Doug Copp. I am the Rescue Chief and Disaster Manager of the
American Rescue Team International (ARTI), the world's most experienced
rescue team. The information in this article will save lives in an
earthquake.

I have crawled inside 875 collapsed buildings, worked with rescue teams
from 60 countries, founded rescue teams in several countries, and I am a
member of many rescue teams from many countries. I was the United Nations
expert in Disaster Mitigation (UNX051 -UNIENET) for two years.
I have worked at every major disaster in the world since 1985, except for

simultaneous disasters.

In 1996 we made a film which proved my survival methodology to be correct.

The Turkish Federal
Government, City of Istanbul, University of Istanbul, Case Productions and

ARTI cooperated to film this practical, scientific test. We collapsed a
school and a home with 20 mannequins inside. Ten mannequins did "duck
and cover," and ten mannequins I used in my "triangle of life" survival
method. After the simulated earthquake collapse we crawled through the
rubble and entered the building to film and document the results. The
film, in which I practiced my survival techniques under directly
observable, scientific conditions, relevant to building collapse, showed
there would have been zero percent survival for those doing duck and
cover. There would likely have been 100 % survivability for people using
my method of the "triangle of life." This film has been seen by millions
of viewers on television in Turkey and the rest of Europe, and it was seen
in the USA, Canada and Latin America on the TV program Real TV.

The first building I ever crawled inside of was a school in Mexico City
during the 1985 earthquake.
Every child was under their desk. Every child was crushed to the thickness

of their bones. They could have survived by lying down next to their desks
in the aisles. It was obscene, unnecessary and I wondered why the children

were not in the aisles. I didn't at the time know that the children were
told to hide under something.

Simply stated, when buildings collapse, the weight of the ceilings falling

upon the objects or furniture inside crushes these objects, leaving a
space or void next to them. This space is what I call the "triangle of
life". The larger the object, the stronger, the less it will compact. The
less the object compacts, the larger the void, the greater the probability
that the person who is using this void for safety will not be injured.

The next time you watch collapsed buildings, on television, count the
"triangles" you see formed. They are everywhere. It is the most common
shape, you will see, in a collapsed building. They are everywhere. I
trained the Fire Department of Trujillo (population 750,000) in how to
survive, take care of their families, and to rescue others in earthquakes.

The chief of rescue in the Trujillo Fire Department is a professor at
Trujillo University. He accompanied me everywhere. He gave personal
testimony: "My name is Roberto Rosales. I am Chief of Rescue in Trujillo.
When I was 11 years old, I was trapped inside of a collapsed building. My
entrapment occurred during the earthquake of 1972 that killed 70,000
people. I survived in the "triangle of life" that existed next to my
brother's motorcycle. My friends who got under the bed and under desks
were crushed to death [he gives more details, names, addresses etc.]...I
am the living example of the "triangle of life". My dead friends are the
example of "duck and cover".

TIPS DOUG COPP PROVIDES:
1) Everyone who simply "ducks and covers" WHEN BUILDINGS COLLAPSE is
crushed to death -- Every time, without exception. People who get under
objects, like desks or cars, are always crushed.

2) Cats, dogs and babies all naturally often curl up in the fetal
position. You should too in an earthquake. It is a natural safety/survival
instinct. You can survive in a smaller void. Get next to an object, next
to a sofa, next to a large bulky object that will compress slightly but
leave a void next to it.

3) Wooden buildings are the safest type of construction to be in during an

earthquake. The reason
is simple: the wood is flexible and moves with the force of the
earthquake. If the wooden building does collapse, large survival voids are
created. Also, the wooden building has less concentrated, crushing weight.

Brick buildings will break into individual bricks. Bricks will cause many
injuries but less squashed bodies than concrete slabs.

4) If you are in bed during the night and an earthquake occurs, simply
roll off the bed. A safe void will exist around the bed. Hotels can
achieve a much greater survival rate in earthquakes, simply by posting a
sign on the back of the door of every room, telling occupants to lie down
on the floor, next to the bottom of the bed during an earthquake.

5) If an earthquake happens while you are watching television and you
cannot easily escape by getting out the door or window, then lie down and

curl up in the fetal position next to a sofa, or large chair.

6) Everybody who gets under a doorway when buildings collapse is killed.
How? If you stand under a doorway and the door jam falls forward or
backward you will be crushed by the ceiling above. If the door jam falls
sideways you will be cut in half by the doorway. In either case, you will
be killed!

7) Never go to the stairs. The stairs have a different "moment of
frequency" (they swing separately from the main part of the building). The
stairs and remainder of the building continuously bump into each other
until structural failure of the stairs takes place. The people who get on
stairs before they fail are chopped up by the stair treads. They are
horribly mutilated. Even if the building doesn't collapse, stay away from
the stairs. The stairs are a likely part of the building to be damaged.
Even if the stairs are not collapsed by the earthquake, they may collapse
later when overloaded by screaming, fleeing people. They should always be
checked for safety, even when the rest of the building is not damaged.

8) Get Near the Outer Walls Of Buildings Or Outside Of Them If Possible -

It is much better to be near the outside of the building rather than the
interior. The farther inside you are from the outside perimeter of the
building the greater the probability that your escape route will be
blocked.

9) People inside of their vehicles are crushed when the road above falls
in an earthquake and crushes their vehicles; which is exactly what
happened with the slabs between the decks of the

Nimitz Freeway. The victims of the San Francisco earthquake all stayed
inside of their vehicles.

They were all killed. They could have easily survived by getting out and
sitting or lying next to their vehicles, says the author. Everyone killed
would have survived if they had been able to get out of their cars and sit
or lie next to them. All the crushed cars had voids 3 feet high next to
them, except for the cars that had columns fall directly across them.

10) I discovered, while crawling inside of collapsed newspaper offices and

other offices with a lot of paper, that paper does not compact. Large
voids are found surrounding stacks of paper.

Want to feel better, smell better and taste better? Perhaps you want to live longer and prosper? My previous post which taken from The Star said that "Being lazy key to a long life". Besides this, quit smoking is another way to have a better life. It's just that easy and just that difficult. For those who smoke, quitting is often the one and only new year's resolution. Some I'm very sure have tried year after year without success. Many are aware that they are spending money on something which can harm them. Today I would like highlight an average day for a pack-a-day smoker life routine.

0700 Wake up and have a smoke.
0715 Shower and right after a cigarette fixed.
0745 Wait for bus or car and smoke again.
0830 Arrive at work and light up for a fresh day.
1000 Have a break, have a cigarette.
1230 Lunch time, probably 3 or 4 cigarettes.
1500 Tea break for smoke again.
1730 A quick smoke before rushing back home.
1830 Reached home and have a smoke to relax.
2000 After dinner, incomplete without the cigarettes.
2030 Watch TV, relax at your couch, 3 to 4 sticks
2230 Internet, maybe blogging now, another 2 to 4 sticks
0000 Before sleep another stick.

On the other hand, new research shown that,

* In 82 percent of the cases where a young person lives with a smoker,
that smoker is a parent.
* About 5.6 million young people between the ages of 12 and 17
currently live in a household with at least one parent who smokes.
Of these youth, 1.3 million live in a household with two smoking
parents.
* Youth reports indicate that although 70 percent of all US households
completely ban smoking in their homes, among households in which a
smoker lives, only 46 percent have rules against smoking in the
home.

For parents out there, it is easy to start a good healthy family by keeping this in your mind all the time. Just that simple.

I'm totally agree with this news reported from NewsandSentinel.com about anti-smoking actually is fighting the culture battle. Smoking has been accepted to our society for such a long time and it is a hard task if now the government want to impose anti-smoking.

"Kids do what they see; they never do what they're told," said Beth Knapp, Parkersburg High School health teacher and adviser to the school's RAZE group. "It's not for lack of information. It's so much a part of the culture. They're not afraid of it."

"If I have a kid that can't afford a pack of cigarettes, there's a business establishment that will sell them one cigarette," she said. "Pop and cigarettes - that's what (some students) have before they come to school."

Culture or sometime I like to call civilization is a very complex topic to discuss and in general I include all aspect from belief to knowledge, art, morals, law and habits. All of this in a big society that practise by the human. Some even mentioned about spiritual, emotional and intellectual features which I don't have any idea about this. Whatever it is, I believe that culture can be change from time to time to have a better culture.

50,000 children killed in tsunami

According to CNN, of the more than 150,000 people killed in the tsunamis, 50,000 were children and this is just an early estimation. What will be the exact figure? I don't think anyone can ever think of it. These unfortunate young children were too weak to run from this badly hit disaster compare to adults were stronger.

On the other hand, they also reported that the birth rates tend to be higher and life expectancies low. This is not a surprise everytime after a bad disaster. 30 to 40 percent of residents are age 18 or below which you can see how badly it hit the younger generation of the future.

John University found that secondhand cigarette smoke increases the risks of developing cervical cancer. For those don't really have idea what is this cervical cancer about, according to wikipedia, cervical cancer is malignancy of the cervix; it is one of the more common cancers affecting women of reproductive age. It may present with vaginal bleeding but is often only detected in advanced stages, which has made it the focus of intense screening efforts. Early stages are treated with local surgical therapy; advanced stages require hysterectomy (removal of the whole uterus including part of the vagina) and adjuvant therapy such as radiation therapy or chemotherapy.

The study, which has been published in the January 2005 issue of 'Obstetrics & Gynecology' found that women who lived with smokers had a 40 percent or greater risk of developing cervical neoplasia.

The researchers examined the personal cigarette smoking and household passive smoking exposures of two cohort groups in 1963 and 1975. Questionnaires from the two groups, which totaled 51,173 women, were compared to a local cancer registry.

FYI, cervical cancer is more common to

1. Cervical cancer was common in female sex workers.
2. It was rare in nuns, except for those who had been sexually active before entering the convent.
3. It was more common in the second wives of men whose first wives had died from cervical cancer.
4. Its was rare in the wives of Jewish and other circumcised men.

Still, cigarette smoking is the largest preventable cause of death and disability.

Smoking and the future

Ever since the link was established between lung cancer and smoking some 52 years ago there has been s steady decrease in the level of smokers as proportion of the population as a whole. In last year we have seen many countries have imposed that no smoking in public places especially restaurants and pubs. Malaysia's ministry has take action to make smoking occupational safety issue.

The questions,
1. The people want restrictions or ban?
2. How is the people should have the freedom of choice?
3. Smoking bans might damage business and income for the government.
4. Is the band affect the smoking habits?

In contrary,
1. Yes, smoking kills.
2. Passive smoking is dangerous.
3. The 'voluntary' approach to pubs and bars will failed (IMHO).
4. Smoking do pollute the air too.

Of course there are many reasons and scenarios for this and that will arise. So will our government ban smoking in public places? Where will a smoking ban lead us to?

For many students, smoking claimed can be released their tension and more concentrate on their study. But recent study found out that secondhand smoke can cause troubles to their learning skills especially young kids. Parents tend to smoke in front of their kids but never aware that it will give harmful side effect to their children.

Children exposed to secondhand smoke, even at extremely low levels, are likely to experience a decline in certain cognitive skills, including reading, math and reasoning, according to a new study.

The study, primarily conducted by Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, is one of the largest ever to link environmental tobacco smoke with intellectual impairments. It is published in the January issue of Environmental Health Perspectives.

An estimated 33 million children age 6 to 16 in the United States could be at risk for levels of secondhand smoke that would negatively affect their cognitive skills, the study said. That's 84 percent of kids in that age group.

The study also shown that kids exposed to secondhand smoke scored lower marks compare to their other friends in school. Would you like to see your kids with lower score in their result?

The study showed that children with cotinine in their blood had lower scores on four separate standardized tests.

For example, on a math test where the average score was 100, these children scored 98.07.

When it came to reading skills, these children scored 97.3 compared to an average score of 100.

While victims are suffering from the tsunami disaster in the region, I found this news from the Asia Business Consulting blog mentioned that there are reports about rapes and orphan traficking emerging. Are these people insane or just had their in somewhere else instead in their head? Millions of survivors are in pretty bad condition currently and aid is the most important but more sad news we heard.

However, there were reports of people preying on the survivors. A womenâs group in Sri Lanka reported that rapists were taking advantage of lax security to target women and girls in temporary shelters. In Thailand, thieves have looted luggage and hotel safes at Khao Lak.

Smoking has proven that related to many diseases like heart disease and lung cancer. Some will think that this is as 'male' disease because male smokers more than female. As number of women smoking increases, there is no longer call 'male' diseases and I will call it as 'preventable' diseases. The number of smokers dying from this illnesses are increasing and sooner the number of male and female smoking will be equal in near future.

We all are human no matter you are male or female and smoking is World Health Organisation says "smoking is a greater cause of death and disability than any single disease". All smokers are potential to had heart attack or stroke, lung problems and many other diseases that can be cover the whole body. Another concern is that it is harm to our children too either directly or indirectly.

Some female claimed that smoking can help them to have diet to keep a good figure. Is this true? I had friend who did this few years ago and she successfully keep a good figure because she will eat lesser when she is smoking. But you think that this is good for your health? You might not see the effect instantly but you will suffer in future. Girls, don't ever try this. Smoking also increases your risk of heart disease and if you smoke and take the contraceptive pill, your risk of heart disease is 30 times that non-smoker.

Men has been long related to smoking. People claimed that male's smoker is look 'cool' and more 'men' than any other men. Is this true? One of my female friend told me that she think smoker who smoke 1 to 2 packs per day is pathetic but if you smoke when hanging out at fancy cafe this will make you look very 'cool'. Do you think so? But I'm very sure that every smoker has their own reason to smoke. Why and how you start smoking is a very typical question.

This is a very touching news cum story from a 42 years old mother and wife who don't really know how the smoking will affect to her life and directly to her health.

"I have lung cancer," Janet Wells says. "They told me that I would die within a matter of a few months."

They were right, although they underestimated it by three months, giving the 42-year-old wife and mother nine months instead of six to tell her story in two matter-of-fact television ads warning of the dangers of smoking.

After learning that her cancer had spread to her spinal cord and brain, Wells sat down last February to tape several interviews for the state Division of Tobacco Prevention, funded by money paid by the tobacco industry through an agreement that settled lawsuits in 46 states.

"I hope some people, especially other mothers of young children, can come to understand just how deadly their smoking is," Wells says in one ad. "I didn't know lung cancer spread to your brain. I didn't know cigarette smoking would cause brain cancer. It does."

For all the mothers out there, I understand that your kids are your precious and I'm very sure that all your children will be treat you as their precious too. With out a good mother by their side, life can be miserable and totally different childhood that will give a very deep memory in future. So think twice before light up!

Wells said "it put her mind at ease" to find out that calls to the state's quit lines surged by 40 percent after the ad aired in 21 eastern counties, Tenney said.

"I have four children," Wells said in another ad. "They range from age 4 to age 15. My oldest is trying to be strong, but it's hard when you see them break down and cry. Little Levi, the 7-year-old, has a hard time with it, it bothers him. He wakes up at night being sick and talking about when mommy's not there.

"If I had never started smoking, I don't think this would have ever happened."

The estimated death toll rose Saturday to more than 140,000 people in the 11 Asian and African nations affected by a magnitude 9 earthquake and resulting tsunamis nearly a week ago. About 80,000 of the dead were in Indonesia.

U.N. emergency relief coordinator Jan Egeland predicted Saturday that 5 million people ultimately will be affected by the disaster, including 1 million homeless.

Meanwhile, aid for the disaster have reached $2billion where it came from all over the world. Currently, diseases are the main concern because it might spread easily and this will lead to more death cause it is uncontrolable.

In Malaysia, rumours trigger panic as many terrified that the tsunami might hit for second time.

Persistent rumors that tsunamis might hammer Malaysia's northwestern coast for a second time have sparked panic among terrified residents, officials and news reports said Saturday.

About 20 women fainted at disaster relief centers while other people ran for higher ground in northern Kedah state Friday when they heard some villagers insist that surging waters were headed toward the state, the New Straits Times newspaper reported.

Hundreds of people are living at these centers after being evacuated from their seaside homes following Sunday's tsunamis that killed 66 Malaysians and injured more than 200 others.

False rumors of tsunamis also hit the resort island of Penang, as ferry services were temporarily canceled late Thursday and officials evacuated scores of people from beaches, a police spokesman said on condition of anonymity.

Although our Prime Minister has called no celebration for new year but pray for all the victims of the sad incident, but it is still a new year for everyone.

'Happy New Year!' this greeting you will be said or heard countless of times over the next few weeks. New year's resolutions also has began I think few weeks back for most of us. Each year smoking kills millions globally, as for those who wish to quit smoking in the year of 2005, the question is, Are you ready to quit? No matter you are in Smoker's Gene or non-smoker's gene, you can do it successfully with a proper way like example,

1. Believe that you can quit smoking (most important).
2. Create a quit plan.
3. Take action, 'Fail to planning is planning to fail'.
4. Prepare yourself mentally.
5. Get help and support from family and friends.

On the other hand, bad ending for the South-East Asia where on the Christmas day, a disaster, Tsunami, happened which claimed many life and the number is still going up hill. Currently the death is at 66 people in Malaysia but the total losses of life might reach a very sad figure. Many went missing persons throughout the region and more half of the victims are children.

This is kinda funny news and I not sure whether it is a good or bad news for Singaporean but I'm this will be good for Genting as many Singaporean might still coming to the 'entertainment city' to gamble for their life. $100 per day or $2,000 per year if you want to gamble in the Singapore casino.

The Trade and Industry Ministry yesterday said that the entrance fees were a signal that gambling was not a way to make a living.

The measure is among the 'social safeguards' spelt out for investors interested in developing an integrated resort on Sentosa or in Marina Bay.

To protect the young, the age bar has been set at 21, and to stop Singaporeans from gambling away their future earnings, casino operators cannot extend credit to them unless they are 'premium players' who can put at least $100,000 up front.

I was speechless when I read this article. Maybe fewer people heard about this throat cancer due to smoking. Not only throat but nose cancer also can be due to exhale when smoking.

Death Toll Rises To 66 In Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 30 (Bernama) -- The tsunami death toll in Malaysia rose to 66 as of midnight tonight, according to the Malaysian Control Centre in the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters here.

A spokesman of the centre said the latest body, identified as that of a man named Yeoh Guan Poh, was found at about 6.45pm at Telok Bahang beach in Penang.

The recovery brought the total killed in Penang to 52 while the number in three other states remained unchanged -- 10 in Kedah, three in Perak and one in Selangor.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported that the total death toll has reached 80,000.

Dec. 29 (Bloomberg) -- Relief agencies struggled to rush aid to more than 3 million people in Africa and Asia who lack food and medicine as the number of fatalities from the weekend's earthquake and tsunamis passed 80,000, with more than half the dead in Indonesia.

M'sia To Hold Prayers Instead Of New Year's Eve Celebrations

Malaysia will not celebrate the New Year's Celebrations nationwide but our PM called for prayers following the incidents of tsunami which killed 65 people so far here.

"Let us also pray that that those facing hardship (following the tsunami) will have the fortitude to overcome their losses," he said during a visit to Kampung Kepala Jalan, Kota Kuala Muda here during a tour of the tsunami-hit areas.

"We hope that those who have suffered damage and loss of livelihood will strive even harder to ensure that their sources of income are restored."

The Prime Minister also called on mosques throughout the country to conduct sermons related to the catastrophic event and to reach out to the tsunami victims to help them overcome their grief and hardship.

As for Non-Muslims, Abdullah called on them to also pray for whatever would be for the best of the people and the country according to their own practices and beliefs.

He hoped that the tsunami victims would be grateful for the assistance extended to them so far to reduce their burden.

If you have been to Sri Hartamas since the last christmas, all the banners have up for the celebration of the coming new year. Are they going to stop too? Or perhaps maybe we should have a smaller scale new year's eve celebration? Genting is going to have few concerts up on the new year's eve, and many other places are preparing for the celebration.

We can't stop earthquakes from happening. We can't block or dispel tsunamis before they hit shore. What we can do is prevent the kind of loss of life seen this week.

Fauzi, The 'Penang's Lang' Hero

I heard about this guy from the Hitz.FM morning crew and didn't manage to get the whole story. Now I found this article in The Sun and I'm correct about his name, Fauzi Yacob.

The sight of "a line of white foam at a distance rushing furiously towards shore" prompted Fauzi, 32, to quickly warn more than 100 people to clear the beach, and out of harm's way.

Fauzi, recreation manager of the Grand Plaza Park Royal Hotel in Batu Ferringhi, ran frantically along the shore, blowing his whistle, and shouting at the top of his voice to alert those in the water to get out.

"We had about seven to eight minutes before the first of the large waves hit," said Fauzi, who recounted the experience on Tuesday.

"There were about 60 hotel guests engaged in various water sports, like jet-skiing, banana boat rides, and speed boats at that time."

Fauzi, who likes watching National Geographic programmes which include episodes on storms and other natural disasters, said when he saw the line of white foam on the horizon, it struck him that a tsunami was headed his way.

I think Fauzi did a great job and he is a good example to all Malaysians. As far as i know, Malaysians are mostly too afraid to do something like what fauzi did. Sometime I would like to say that we are a little bit of selfishness by ignoring other people. Bravo Fauzi!

Tsunami death toll tops 60,000

BANDA ACEH, Indonesia (CNN) -- The number of dead in Indonesia has risen five-fold to 27,174, almost doubling the death toll from the massive underwater earthquake and the equally massive tsunami that followed it.

The latest numbers push the final toll from Sunday's catastrophe to over 60,000.

The morning crew mentioned about this guy called Fauzi (i'm not sure whether this is a correct name) who knew about this Tsunami through National Geographics and alerted many people about this disaster on the day it happened. Tidal Waves Death Toll Rises to 44,000

At 19:13PM, I posted that the death toll at 29,000 and few hours later the toll has almost double up to 44,000.

BANDA ACEH, Indonesia Dec 28, 2004 — Mourners in Sri Lanka used their bare hands to dig graves Tuesday while hungry islanders in Indonesia turned to looting in the aftermath of Asia's devastating tsunamis. Thousands more bodies were found in Indonesia, dramatically increasing the death toll across 11 nations to around 44,000.

Emergency workers who reached Aceh province at the northern tip of Indonesia's Sumatra island found that 10,000 people had been killed in a single town, Meulaboh, said Purnomo Sidik, national disaster director at the Social Affairs Ministry.

Another 9,000 were confirmed dead so far in the provincial capital, Banda Aceh, and surrounding towns, he said. Soldiers and volunteers combed seaside districts and dug into rubble of destroyed houses to seek survivors and retrieve the dead amid unconfirmed reports that other towns along Aceh's west coast had been demolished.

So far I don't see any additional number reported from Malaysia and I hope that the number will remain in the minima. Lets cross our finger and pray for everyone who directly or indirectly affected by this unwanted disaster.

Besides the baby found on the mattress claimed as a miracle, Malaysia also consider as miracle reported by Yahoo News but I would like to say that we are lucky and we should always proud to be Malaysian and stay in this lovely country. Who say Malaysia is not a good place to stay? This has been proven we are here much much safer than any other country else where.

The secret to Malaysia's miracle lies in Sumatra itself, experts say. The epicentre of the quake lay just west of Sumatra's northern tip, meaning that as the tsunamis set off on their deadly course across the oceans the island acted as a buffer for Malaysia.

Just 250 kilometres (155 miles) up the coast north of Penang, beyond Sumatra's tip, Thailand's beaches lay exposed to the waves and up to 2,000 people died, including hundreds of foreign tourists on the resort islands of Phuket and Phi Phi, which were devastated.

"Malaysia is lucky. We were protected by Sumatra island," Low Kong Chiew, director of the state-run Seismology Division told AFP.

"If it weren't for the Sumatra island, it would have been a different story."

If the epicentre of the quake had been a little further north, above Sumatra's tip, the tsunamis could possibly have been funneled down the narrow Malacca Strait, one of the world's busiest shipping lanes, which separates Sumatra from Malaysia and Singapore.

Rescue workers found eight bodies, raising the death toll in Malaysia from the weekend tsunamis to 60, while they continued to search for about 100 others still missing, officials said Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the government _ stung by criticism over its failure to warn people of the oncoming tidal waves _ said it would establish an early warning system for tsunamis.

"We will get all the appropriate sources to help us establish an early warning system," Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak was cited as saying by The Star newspaper.

Meanwhile, a 20 days old baby saved by floating mattress who was sleeping on it while the disaster happened.

"We were all caught off guard when the wave hit us. I was thrown several meters but managed to hold onto one of the posts. But my 12-year old daughter was swept away by the wave," the father, A. Suppiah, 55, told Bernama.

He and his wife then braved the waters to look for their baby.

"I thought I had lost both my daughters, but, thank God, the mattress was floating in about 1.5 meters of water and my baby was crying," he said.

Secondhand Smoke Is A Proven Killer

Nowadays, many countries have banned smoking in public places but smokers still can smoke light up in their own home. Did you ever think that this will cause more harm maybe not to yourself but to your family members? Scientist has proven that secondhand smoke is harm to our health more than the smoke that inhaled by smokers. Due to limited space in you house this will trap more smoke than any other places.

In 1993, the Environmental Protection Agency classified secondhand smoke as a Group A carcinogen, the same category as asbestos, benzene, arsenic and radon.

There is no safe exposure level for Group A carcinogens. It's more than a question of comfort. Secondhand smoke kills 50,000 people every year from heart and lung disease -- more than all other Group A carcinogens combined.

As parents, I strongly suggest that try to avoid smoking infront of their children and most importantly as role models for their kids. Besides, adults are responsbile for providing a safe environment for their kids. Smoking usually begins in adolescence and results in a lifelong addiction that is very difficult to break. Billions of dollars in cigarette advertising are directed toward children, suggesting that smoking is a cool and sexy behavior.
Meanwhile, sixthseal posted that Dunhill is celebrating 40 years of causing cancer and coronary problems to Malaysians. With a very good marketing strategy they are selling the Dunhill's cigarettes at 50 cents cheaper compare to market price. They are one of the greatest marketer of all time indeed. Real respect to them.

Philsland (in French) is a subscriber to an earthquake prevention alert: USGS earthquake. He was warned about the earthquake three hours before the waves touched the coasts:

"A great earthquake occurred at 00:58:49 (UTC) on Sunday, December 26, 2004. The magnitude 9.0 event has been located OFF THE WEST COAST OF NORTHERN SUMATRA. (This event has been reviewed by a seismologist.)"

When I read thru all the blogs that posting about this disaster and you can noticed that maybe death toll can be lower with the early warning system and also involvement of more bloggers by informing faster and more accurate info thru the internet. The Star reported that the early warning system being planned to prevent more tragedies in future.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said yesterday this was to prevent tragedies and the loss of lives, like what the country experienced on Sunday.

“We will get all the appropriate sources to help us in establishing the early warning system,” he said, adding that experts from Japan would be invited for this purpose because the country had a comprehensive early warning system.

Najib also said the country had been put on the alert for a possible second tsunami because the epicentre of the earthquake near Sumatra had yet to stabilise.
